Fourth grade
Get ready for California history! In fourth grade students get immersed in California’s past and present. They learn all about Native Americans, European Explorers, Spanish Missions, and the Gold Rush. Many fourth grade classes enjoy field trips to Sacramento to visit the State Capitol and Sutter’s Fort. Some classes take Amtrak to Old Town Sacramento to tour the Railroad Museum and learn about Chinese railroad workers. Other classes visit San Francisco de Solano, the Spanish Mission in Sonoma. Students at John Muir Elementary spend a day at the John Muir House in Martinez where they dress in period clothing from the 1890’s and work in the yard making candles, adobe bricks, and more. Overall, fourth grade is full of many opportunities for students to learn the history of our state.
