Technology At John Muir

Educators in the MUSD realize that technology must be thoroughly integrated to prepare students for success in 21st century colleges and careers. As a result, access to technology is vital.

STUDENT DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM

At John Muir, students have access to individual devices, giving teachers the ability to provide educational experiences that are tailor-made for each student. All classrooms are equipped with appropriate digital learning devices.

Students are expected to take care with the devices they use in class. Careless or reckless treatment of a machine resulting in damage can result in student discipline and/or fines.

Image displayed of the iPad logo.TK-3rd grade classrooms have a minimum of 6 ipads loaded with educational apps for student use. These devices are commonly used in station rotations or can be used for individualized teaching as needed.

Students access educational sites and tools on a daily basis including district provided GMail accounts and Google Drive tools, online student applications such as Renaissance Learning (AR), Lexia Reading Core 5, Typing Pal and online textbooks and learning activities.

Haiku Learning is unique in the learning management space for its seamless integration with Google Docs/Drive. Students can create a Google Doc in the Google Drive and hand it in to their teacher on the Haiku online classroom. This allows teachers and students to communicate on assignments online without the need to print an assignment, reducing paper use.

Technology in the Classroom

"Studies have shown that students using technology as an education tool become more engaged in the process and more interested in growing their knowledge base.

Online and high-tech programs not only often provide better context, a greater sense of perspective, and more arresting activities that allow them to better connect with students. They also frequently offer a more interesting and involving way to digest information."
