Technology At John Muir
Educators in the MUSD realize that technology must be thoroughly integrated to prepare students for success in 21st century colleges and careers. As a result, access to technology is vital.

STUDENT DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM
At John Muir, students have access to individual devices, giving teachers the ability to provide educational experiences that are tailor-made for each student. All classrooms are equipped with appropriate digital learning devices.
Students are expected to take care with the devices they use in class. Careless or reckless treatment of a machine resulting in damage can result in student discipline and/or fines.
TK-3rd grade classrooms have a minimum of 6 ipads loaded with educational apps for student use. These devices are commonly used in station rotations or can be used for individualized teaching as needed.
4th & 5th grade classrooms have full class sets of Acer Netbooks. Each student is assigned their own netbook to use in class for the school year. Students access educational sites and tools on a daily basis including district provided GMail accounts and Google Drive tools, online student applications such as Renaissance Learning (AR), Lexia Reading Core 5, Typing Pal and online textbooks and learning activities.
GMAIL, GOOGLE DRIVE & HAIKU CLASSROOM
3rd-5th grade students are provided with school district provided GMail accounts which give them access to Google apps including Google Drive and Haiku Classroom.
Student GMail accounts are to be used expressly for school use. The accounts are managed by school site and district office administration and can be accessed at any time if inappropriate use is detected.
Students can create documents, presentations & e-portfolios as well as collaborating and communicating with teachers and peers on assignments.
Students can access the Google Drive on any device by logging in to their GMail account and opening the Google Drive app within their GMail account.
Haiku Learning is a Google app which allows teachers to create an online classroom which students can access via a GMail account to view class and assignment information.
Haiku Learning is unique in the learning management space for its seamless integration with Google Docs/Drive. Students can create a Google Doc in the Google Drive and hand it in to their teacher on the Haiku online classroom. This allows teachers and students to communicate on assignments online without the need to print an assignment, reducing paper use.
