English Learner Program

Picture of Lillian Sevilla.Ms. Sevilla - English Learner Program
My name is Ms. Sevilla, and I am the Bilingual Para-educator at John Muir Elementary.  I manage the English Learner Program.  I provide English Learners (EL) assistance in their classrooms and I pull-out small groups to clarify curriculum concepts.  My directions are forwarded to me by the classroom teacher.  I monitor student progress towards meeting academic performance standards.
The EL program has formed an Advisory Committee (J.M. ELAC) to make sure EL parents are informed about school policies, plans, services, achievements, and activities. I'm happy parents are involved!  The committee meets at least five times a year.  When funds are available the EL staff coordinates CBET classes for parents.  The bilingual para-educators provide services, such as, translation and interpretation services for Martinez Unified School district families.
Every year, I embrace the new students and their families.  I feel happy for those who show interest and growth about learning their new language, English.  I am very proud to work with such talented and dedicated staff and very pleased to help so many wonderful families and children at John Muir Elementary School.

Welcome to a new year of reading! In our leveled literacy program, students will get the little extra help they need to become successful readers. I am excited to welcome the kids to our classroom in room 19.
