Differentiated instruction is an instructional theory where teachers structure their learning environments to address the variety of learning styles, interests, and abilities found within a classroom. DI time at John Muir is scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Throughout these days, each grade level has an assigned DI time in which the students are grouped together so that they are given the appropriate level of challenge in the Common Core areas of Reading and Language Arts. During DI time, a team of teachers, including the Resource Teacher, the Intervention Teacher, and the Classroom Teacher, provides focused and intensive instruction to support students’ academic growth and to help them  make sense of concepts and skills. Students are placed in groups based on multiple measures of assessment and are re-assessed systematically to determine movement between groups.
