Greetings Parents/Guardians of John Muir Elementary School,
I, Taynesha LeBeaux, have been appointed to be your Principal for the new 2021-22 school year. When thinking about the new school year, we have to truly develop a new mindset of what that looks like. Living through a pandemic has shifted our way of viewing education and focused our attention on being trauma-informed and being socially and emotionally aware of what our students' needs are in order to support their success in school.
I come from a background of teaching at the elementary level within the diverse communities of Hayward, Ca. I spent 12 years teaching grades k-6, emphasizing the importance of student leadership and closing the achievement gap. I have trained and have experience in number talks, common core standards, writer’s workshops, read alouds, Academic Language Development (ALD), English Language Development (ELD), Algebraic Thinking and Reasoning, and Mindfulness.
In the past 5 years, I have spent my career developing and achieving many successes as an Assistant Principal in the Antioch Unified School District. My focus as an Assistant Principal was to look at the data to help inform my decision-making on what was needed for the success of students at Antioch Middle School. I concluded that my philosophy on parent, staff, student, and community engagement and decision making, was the direction I needed to lead in. Thus developing systems that supported our parents, teachers, students, and staff, such as Parent groups, leadership opportunities for students, implementation of community events, and relevant professional development for staff.
As Principal of John Muir Elementary, my plan is to bring the same philosophies and systems I put into place as a teacher and an administrator. It is important that I am transparent and involve constituents in the decision-making for the success and well-being of our students. I can’t wait to meet you! Thank you for your support.
