Welcome Back to School!
Dear John Muir Families,
Welcome back to school! I hope you have all had a wonderful summer filled with quality family time! I’d also like to welcome our newest Timberwolf families. This year, not only do we have those families who are new to our community and our incoming Kindergarteners, we also are welcoming Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to John Muir Elementary (JME). Last year, I had the opportunity to have a TK at my former site and watching those youngest learners blossom put a smile on my face every single day!
I’d also like to welcome three new teachers to John Muir, Ms. Katie Sahlman, Mrs. Amy Benz and Mrs. Jessica Wagner. Mrs. Emily Selby is a familiar face at JME and this year she will be teaching 5th grade. Ms. Sahlman will be teaching TK, Mrs. Benz will be teaching our TK/Kinder combination class, and Mrs. Wagner will be teaching our 1st-2nd Grade combination class. We are very fortunate to have these wonderful new additions to our team.

New to John Muir 2014-2015
As you will see upon returning to our campus, there are some significant changes on our blacktop and parking lots. These changes have been implemented for our students with the primary purpose of Student Safety. Please see below for information regarding these changes:
Parent Parking and Student Pick up and Drop off:
Prior to this school year, there were very limited parent parking spaces. This year, the lower parking lot (by Kindergarten) is now designated for parent parking only. THIS IS NOT A DROP OFF OR PICK UP ZONE.
Single Point of Entry:
In the past, there were several open points of entry into our school, compromising student safety. Our goal is to have one main point of entry into JME at the front of the school to better ensure the safety for our students. Openings or gates behind the school will now be closed off. I realize this may cause an inconvenience for some families, however, please understand that safety comes first.
Teacher and Visitor Parking:
The upper lot is designated primarily for staff members and Woodbridge. Most teacher parking will be on the closed off lot by the playground.
New Playground Structure!
The most exciting new change you will see is our wonderful new playground structure. We can’t wait to see our students enjoying it!

August 26 (Tuesday): First Day of School
September 1: NO SCHOOL- Labor Day Holiday
September 11: TK-5 Back to School Night
September 12: TK-5 Minimum Day

9:00-10:00 am TK, AM Kindergarten, and New JME Families
12:30-1:15 pm PM TK/Kindergarten Families
Please meet us in front of the Kindergarten Area
and we will escort you to the Library
John Muir Elementary (JME) welcomes our Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten and new JME families, and we’d like to invite you to an orientation on our first day of school, August 26th. Here you will have an opportunity to meet your Principal and our PTA Board. You will get a tour of the school, have an opportunity to ask questions and get involved, and get to know other new families at JME. A continental breakfast will be served. TK and Kindergarten families will begin with an orientation in classrooms. We’re so excited you are part of our JME community!
Updating your child's information for the 2014-15 school year:
If you have not yet updated your child's information, once again we will be using the Aeries Parent Portal to update student information online. All parents should go to http://www.martinezusd.net/reg.html, and complete the following steps:
